Concerns with Quats: Human Health & Antimicrobial Resistance – White Paper

Share this post:

Quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) are a large class of chemicals that have been used for decades as antimicrobials, preservatives, and antistatic agents and for other functions in cleaning, disinfecting, personal care products, and durable consumer goods. QAC use has accelerated in response to the pandemic as well as due to the US Food and Drug Administration’s 2016 banning of 19 antimicrobials from several personal care products. Although these products were not known to contain QACs, they were banned due to concerns of their long-term health risks and this decision led to increased use of products with QACs.

In this white paper, learn more about the health hazards associated with using products that contain QACs, how these antimicrobials can develop resistance to disinfectants and create “superbugs”, and discover a safer alternative.
